"I'm Virgo so I'm doomed to be overly picky and critical so I drive everyone away (unless they want me to organise their closet for them, sigh).” ~ a Virgo client
NOOOOOO!!!
That is not healthy, free-flowing Virgo.
That’s what happens when Virgo encounters *waves around wildly* all the toxic systems in which we swim.
Ruled by network-and-communication god Mercury, Virgo’s magical superpower is to move things from chaos (a state where anything is possible but nothing is clear) to order (a state where things are made real and manifest).
You start out with a vague concept for furniture to fill an empty spot
You realise what's needed is something to put things on
You draft plans in exquisite detail, and assemble the required supplies
You measure up three times, so you only have to cut once
You build and assemble with care and attention
And now, you have a table on which to put your coffee
Virgo brings things to 3D reality with ease and clarity and a kind of streamlined magic that other signs sometimes find mystifying.
This gift for magical orderliness means Virgo can look at any system or structure or network or arrangement, and see the flaws instantly.
That’s what makes Virgo the Sherlock Holmes of the zodiac.
Curious: insatiably researching, until the useful answer has been found (and then stopping, unlike Gemini)
Perceptive: sees patterns where others see confusion, deducing from the subtlest of clues
Focused: walks up to the broken machine, turns one screw, and has it miraculously working again
When Virgo is given the freedom to express those gifts, they are happy as clams; and their gifts sounds awesome, right?
But imagine the Virgo kid who looks at all the systems that aren't functioning - in the wider world, or in their own personal milieu - and offers their insights and advice.
Imagine how well that’s received by the teacher, the visiting aunt, the older siblings.
Ask me about that time when I was ten, and corrected a teacher's mispronunciation of a word. 😬
For the record, I was right and he was wrong - and yes, I do still need to clarify that detail. 😏
It’s no surprise that Virgo kids easily become blocked, suppressed, frustrated - because now little Virgo is in a world full of dysfunction, with SO many brilliant solutions, and nobody will let them fix that shit … which makes NO SENSE, and is annoying AF.
So they learn to shove their genius down deep, to keep the adults happy.
Then, when they show up for their first job, the pattern often repeats.
Spot a solution, share it with more senior staff - and watch the boss or the boomer colleague dismiss them in a heartbeat.
No wonder the suppressed Virgo ends up critical and uptight.
Their brilliance has been cast aside, their light forced into the darkness, and their genius has to leak out where it can, even if it comes out as sniping or carping or snide remarks.
Those are not the natural Virgo energy, and those things always end up hurting poor Virgo as well as those around them.
If you’re the Virgo in question, and if any of this rings for you, Virgo season is a great time to find ways to express that Holmesian genius for spotting the clues, for putting things together, for bringing orderliness to the world - while practising the grown up art of compassion for the rest of us mere mortals who simply can’t see what you can see so clearly.
Your genius is real AND you might need to be gentle with us.
If you can inject some patience into the mix and help us come with you, help us see what you see - we can only stand back in admiration at your gifts.
And if you live with a Virgo, see if you can spot how some of the behaviour you’ve found annoying or hurtful has its source in the pain felt by that Virgo kiddo, back when they were simply trying to fix the world and nobody would listen. (And maybe give them this article to read…)
