Mythbusting Taurus
"I'm Taurus, so I'm doomed to be stubborn and lazy"
NO!!!!!!!
Let’s bust that Taurus myth, shall we?
We’ll start with a reminder that Taurus is ruled by Venus - and we have NO positive role model for Venus in our culture.
So it’s no surprise her signs are also misunderstood (yes, Libra gets the same undeserved treatment of misogyny and judgement)
Venus is thoroughly self-focused.
When she takes a lover (and she loves to have a lover!), she takes him for her own benefit, not for his.
Venus knows exactly what she wants, never holding back out of shame or fear.
Taurus represents Venus in sensual mode, relishing physical comfort and sensory delight in the body.
But, like all signs of the zodiac, our natural expression of the Taurean superpowers usually falls foul of the patriarchal, capitalist systems within which we were all raised.
Think about the things that Taurus excels at (also the things which restore us and replenish our tanks):
Sensory delight and physical comfort? Incompatible with working all the daylight hours to make a profit for The Man.
Knowing your own mind, and how to stand your ground? Incompatible with being easily and quickly pushed into doing what the powers that be want you to do.
A superb talent for tenacity and persistence? Interpreted as "stubborn" when what YOU want doesn't match what THEY want.
Taurus is not easily swayed, so the more they push, the more you stand your ground.
AND ... when we've been wired with the old patriarchy, colonialist rules, we start mistrusting our own Taurean nature.
"You want to put your own pleasure first? How dare you!"
"You know what you want? How vulgar!"
"You enjoy sensory pleasure? How sinful!"
"You're taking time off? Shocking, get back to work!"
“You’re still persisting when I told you to quit speaking? Outrageous!”
We Taureans are pleasure-seeking, comfort-loving goddesses.
Indolence is our sacred superpower, the antithesis of the dude-bro hustle, the 'get it done fast!', the 'get out of your comfort zone' vibe.
Indolence, castigated as ‘laziness’ is a powerful inspiration for working smarter, not harder.
Many years ago, I was angry with my mother for being so well-organised and efficient - until she explained that the reason for having streamlined systems was because she’s fundamentally lazy, and being well-organised meant doing a lot less work.
Other signs which love the adventure, the hustle, the shoulder to the wheel, aren’t inherently wrong; but those things are not the natural go-to Taurus style.
We Taureans can certainly do hustle for short bursts, just like a bull can get up to a terrifyingly fast gallop - but it’s not how we’re designed to function 24/7.
Capitalism and the patriarchy haaaaaate that.
And since we've all been exposed to those hustle vibes, the twin drivers of productivity and perfectionism, it’s not surprising we can end up with brains wired to the hustle.
That makes it REALLY hard to remember our own superpowers.
Pleasure and comfort.
Practical laziness as the antidote to overwork and workaholism.
Knowing our own mind, and sticking to it in the face of distraction.
Solid as a rock, not easily pushed around.
Slow to anger, but holy cow you’d better get out of the way when we’re riled up.
No wonder the patriarchy can't handle us in our natural state.
If you're still hearing judgement in your own head for your own star sign, consider this an invitation to give yourself a little wiggle room and embrace your gifts.
(And if you’re convinced you can’t do it safely, you might want to grab one of my June appointments for a Strategic StarMap Session)
